Tea Towel Co began in 2014 while clearing out our grandmother’s house. Among the boxes and cupboards, we found a collection of beautiful old Australian linen tea towels we couldn’t bring ourselves to throw away. Instead of discarding them, we reimagined them — turning them into cushions — and a small idea began to take shape.

In 2015, that idea became Tea Towel Co. What started as a love of old textiles has grown into a small business centred on illustration and storytelling, celebrating the place we live.

After noticing a lack of Adelaide and South Australia–focused designs on the market, Marchelle (a qualified graphic designer) began creating her own illustrations — drawing the everyday icons, products and details that feel distinctly local. These original artworks are then printed in Australia across a range of products.

In 2018, we released our South Australian Icons calendar, marking a turning point for the business and the beginning of a growing collection that continues to expand. Every illustration is created by us, with South Australia at its heart.

At its core, Tea Towel Co isn’t about mass production or generic merchandise. It’s about creating original artwork that captures place, memory and recognition — that moment when someone sees a product and smiles because it feels like home. We hope our work gives you that feeling too.
